The National Maritime College in Ringaskiddy, County Cork, is a national and international centre of excellence for the education and training of merchant marine students seeking careers in commercial shipping as well as members of the Irish Naval Service in training, for 750 Irish and overseas students.

The facilities accurately replicate the sound, scene and feel of a ship at sea and include:
  • Two full mission bridge simulators, 360o and 270o

  • Three 150o bridge simulators

  • Twelve desktop NARAS bridges

  • A full mission engine room and engine control room simulator

  • A twenty-seat desktop engine room simulator

  • A liquid cargo handling simulator

  • A GMDSS communications systems simulator

  • A fire training unit

  • A damage control and repair training unit

  • An engine room complete with main and auxiliary engines and all supporting equipment

The three-storey college buildings also provide lecture theatre halls, classrooms, technical laboratories, engineering and marine workshops, sea survival training facilities (such as an indoor survival training pool and helicopter, underwater egress trainers), sports and recreation amenities and a slipway and jetty fully fitted with lifeboats and associated launching equipment.
